Hello, I'm Jet Callen
Who is Jet Callen?
Jet Callen is not a real person. Jet is a name I use to build things, write about ideas, and maintain a public presence without attaching everything to my legal identity. Think of it as a pen name with a workshop attached.
I'm a software developer by trade. I build web applications, CLI tools, and the occasional experiment that doesn't fit neatly into any category. I care about craft — the kind of attention to detail that makes software feel considered rather than just functional.
Why an alter ego?
The short answer: freedom.
When everything you publish is tied to your real name, there's an invisible pressure to be consistent, professional, and on brand. An alter ego removes that pressure. Under this name I can:
- Ship half-finished experiments without worrying about my professional reputation
- Write about topics I'm still learning, without pretending to be an expert
- Keep my personal and professional identities separate by choice
It's not about hiding. The legal page has a clear disclosure. It's about creating a space where the work matters more than the name behind it.
What you'll find here
This site has a few sections:
- Writing — essays and notes about building software, tools, and the occasional broader topic
- Projects — things I've built, am building, or have experimented with
- Now — what I'm currently focused on, updated regularly
- Uses — the tools and setup I rely on
The name
"Jet" because it suggests speed, direction, and a certain restlessness. "Callen" because it sounds like someone you'd trust to fix your build pipeline at 2 AM.
If you want to get in touch, there's a contact form. I read everything.
